Stop Pretending

I’m tired of looking for love when all I really want is great sex. I’m tired of expecting more, idealistically knowing full well that’s not how this works, how it happens. This is as good as it gets.

I’m tired of looking for love
when all I really want is great sex.
I’m tired of expecting more,
idealistically
knowing full well
that’s not how this works, how it happens.
This is as good as it gets.

So lay me down gently.
Make love to my body until dawn.
Treat me like a princess,
that isn’t allowed to go home.
There are no castles for me,
no towers to climb.
You cannot rescue me,
I am already doing just fine.
Play with me if you wish, have your fun.
Just leave my emotions, my feelings, my soul
alone.
Don’t try to come into my heart,
moving things around.
Moving right on in
like it was always your home.
Stop pretending
that you and I are better people
than we actually are.
Stop pretending,
you want more.
So when you leave,
I will be prepared
and I won’t miss you
or the idea of you,
anymore.
